Dear Parents,
Just a quick note that grades in Science and Social Studies will be collected up until Thursday, May16th, the day of the Greco-Roman Feast. It's also the day before the end of year field trip to Andretti's Theme Park. Be sure to send in your payment to Ms. Haislip, if you haven't already done so. (Check her "Haislip Happenings" emails for more Info.)
In Science, we've finished our last unit of study on the Human Body. Students have already become resident "experts" on their self-selected Body System and completed their group projects with panache. The Body System Project Google Slide/Pamphlet and presentations were a hit, not to mention the musical parodies. All the practice your children invested in presentation deliveries paid off. They were very well rehearsed and their confidence was beaming.
Interactive Student Notebooks for Science were impressive overall! The IAN Science Notebook interviews went by smoothly, as well. Most students followed the rubrics found in the front of their IAN's and were successful in describing the key points of knowledge expressed in their IAN.
In Social Studies, after completing "Which system had better citizenship, Athens or Rome?" DBQ, we tackled the Roman Republic and then the Empire. Students enjoyed completing their last module activities using their individual learning modalities.
And yes, the famed, Manatee Middle School Week, will take place on the week of May 20th. More information will be sent out in the upcoming weeks. Sixth Grade Field Day will be on Tuesday, May 21st.
If you have any questions or concerns regarding your child's progress, contact me immediately. Otherwise, always encourage your child to R.E.A.C.H. for excellent grades not just by wishing for them but working for them on a daily basis.
I anticipate making learning Science and Social Studies concepts one of the most engaging and satisfying experiences at Manatee Elementary these last few weeks at Manatee!
Responsibility, Effort, Achievement, Caring, Honesty (R.E.A.C.H.)
Regards,
Mr. Acosta
